Harboro Rocks - Peak District Walk
Tuesday 15th August 2023
I had originally planned on doing this walk in the afternoon but as the best of the weather was going to be after six and John wanted to join me we headed out for a late evening walk. Starting out at 7 o'clock we just made it back to the car as the light was failing, although we did have head torches with us.
Start: Manystones Lane (SK 2431 5486)
Route: Manystones Lane - Harboro Rocks (TP) - High Peak Trail - Rainster Rocks - Brassington - Manystones Lane
Distance: 5 miles Ascent: 222 metres Time Taken: 2 hrs
Terrain: Clear paths
Weather: Warm
Pub Visited: None Ale Drunk: None
We were surprised to find there were no other cars parked up when we arrived and even more surprised to not hear any climbers as we headed towards Harboro Rocks.
Heading for the gully that takes you up towards the summit.
Looking back at Carsington Reservoir after we have cleared the gully.
Approaching the summit and neither of us can recall seeing this plaque before, but there again when we checked back it was almost 8 years since we had gone up to the summit as part of this walk.
The dates explain why we haven't seen it before, it was 2015 when we last walked up here.
We spend a bit of time at the trig point admiring the view, but we can't hang around long as time is tight.
Looking across Carsington Reservoir from the summit.
Looking up to Harboro Rocks from the High Peak Trail.
Heading along the High Peak Trail we were surprised by how few people we saw, only 5 cyclists and one family.
It was delightful walking along here in the evening sun.
Looking back along the High Peak Trail as the sun lights everything up.
We leave the High Peak Trail at Longcliffe station.
Looking across the dales towards Aleck Low as we head down the road to Rainster Rocks.
Rainster Rocks come into view as we continue down the road.
As we enter the fields which will take us to Rainster Rocks this group of unnamed rocks are turned gold by the setting sun.
Heading towards Rainster Rocks, as the sun start to illuminate the sky.
There is no time to explore Rainster Rocks as we are only about halfway through the walk.
Just before we take the stile onto Pasture Lane we have chance to admire the setting sun as it lights up the clouds behind White Edge.
Looking back to Rainster Rocks and the path we took across the fields from Pasture Lane.
As we make the descent into Brassington twilight is fast approaching. Here looking across Brassington towards Haven Hill.
From the same spot looking towards Carsington Pastures.
As we leave Brassington the sun has finally set and it is only with a very high ISO that I'm able to take the final shot of the walk. By the time we had reached Manystones Lane it was dark and if the car hadn't been so close we would have needed to get our head torches out.
